Many people think that bright, sunny days are best for taking pictures, direct sunlight can ruin any photograph. It causes awkward shadows, also causing uneven highlights; not only that, squinting subjects and uneven highlights. Early mornings or twilight are ideal when doing an outdoor shoot.

While the background is important, viewers often focus on the foreground instead.

Experiment with the white balance feature that allows you to adjust levels of whiteness. Indoor lighting will often be tainted with yellow tints from bulbs and off colored. Instead of changing the lighting of a room, try playing with the white balance for a new atmosphere. This will make your photographs have a professional appearance.

Shutter Speed

You need to find a healthy mix of shutter speed, aperture and shutter speed.These are how you determine the exposure of your picture. You want to avoid either overexposing or overexposed photos unless you are aiming for that.

Consider enrolling in a photography group, or make friends with another budding photographer.You can learn from others and pick up new ideas, but don’t let their ways rub off onto your photographs. Compare the pictures you both took of the same object.

There is no one secret or silver bullet towards becoming a good photographer. Keep taking pictures and you gain experience. You don’t need to feel you have to preserve every photo you take, especially with the digital format.

Composition is an important factor that every beginning photographer should consider and master when delving into photography. As with anything artistic, a lack of composition will result in an inferior piece of work.

Play with the concepts of scale, expressions, and scale to assess their effect on your pictures.

A higher f-stop number will place everything into focus, which means that everything in the photo will be in focus. This is great for taking a wide landscape shots.
