Anum & Dennis: Crystal Tree Country Club Wedding, Orland Park
Anum + Dennis: A Classic Celebration at Crystal Tree Country Club
Schaumburg is one of the biggest hotel and convention hubs in the Chicago area, so many Schaumburg weddings take place in large hotel ballrooms with guests staying on site. It’s also about ten minutes from Inverness, where I photographed Jessica and Mike’s wedding at Inverness Golf Club.
Schaumburg sits about 27 miles from my Chicago location and a similar distance from Glen Ellyn, which makes it easy to cover from either base.
This guide covers Schaumburg’s history, how to find beautiful portrait settings beyond the hotels, and how I plan a ballroom wedding timeline.

LOCAL GUIDE
A typical Schaumburg wedding: getting ready at the hotel, ceremony at a local parish or the hotel, portraits at Spring Valley or Busse Woods, then a ballroom reception.
Hotel weddings run on a set schedule, so I coordinate with your venue’s coordinator on entrances, toasts, and dances.
Getting to a nature setting usually takes 10–15 minutes from the hotels, so I plan the portrait trip during the gap between ceremony and cocktail hour.
Spring Valley Nature Center and the Volkening Heritage Farm give a rustic, natural look only minutes from the hotels. The farm’s barns and fields are especially charming.
Busse Woods, part of the Forest Preserves of Cook County, has a large lake and forest just east of Schaumburg.
I check current rules for photography at each site before your date.
| 12:00 pm | Getting ready at the hotel; details and candids. |
| 2:00 pm | First look in a quiet hotel courtyard or garden. |
| 3:00 pm | Ceremony at a local parish or the hotel. |
| 3:45 pm | Family photos. |
| 4:15 pm | Wedding party and couple portraits at Spring Valley or Busse Woods. |
| 5:30 pm | Cocktail hour at the hotel. |
| 6:30 pm | Grand entrance, dinner, toasts, first dance. |
| 10:30 pm | Dance floor and wrap-up. |
Every day is different. We’ll adjust this around your ceremony time, venue, and sunset.
Couples choose Schaumburg for convenience. Hotels, ballrooms, restaurants, and Woodfield Mall are all close together, and I-90 and I-290 meet nearby, about 15 minutes from O’Hare.
For big weddings with many out-of-town guests, having the ceremony, reception, and hotel rooms in one place makes the day easy for everyone.
And despite its commercial reputation, Schaumburg has beautiful green spaces, including a heritage farm and a large nature center, just minutes from the hotels.
Schaumburg was a quiet farming community for more than a century before it was incorporated in 1956. Its growth took off after Woodfield Mall opened in 1971, which became one of the largest shopping centers in the country.
The Volkening Heritage Farm at Spring Valley Nature Center preserves an 1880s German-American farm, a reminder of the area’s agricultural roots.
Today Schaumburg is a major business and convention center, with the Schaumburg Convention Center and many hotels drawing visitors year-round.
Schaumburg ceremonies take place at parishes such as St. Marcelline and Church of the Holy Spirit, as well as at hotel ballrooms and event venues.
Many couples hold both the ceremony and reception at the same hotel, which keeps the day simple for guests.
Schaumburg is in Cook County; the suburban Cook County courthouse office in Rolling Meadows is nearby for your marriage license.
Prairie, woods, and the Volkening Heritage Farm for natural portraits away from the hotels.
A large lake and forest just east of town.
About 10 minutes north; see Jessica and Mike’s love story.
Spring Valley’s prairie and woods turn green; the heritage farm is charming in spring.
Long summer evenings bring golden light over Busse Lake.
The woods at Spring Valley and Busse turn gold and red in October.
Snowy barns at the heritage farm make cozy winter portraits.
Hotel ballrooms photograph beautifully with a little planning. I photograph the room before guests enter, while centerpieces and lighting are untouched.
Large ballrooms can feel dark in photos, so uplighting and well-placed candles make a big difference. If your venue offers uplighting, it’s worth adding.
I look for hotel spaces with natural light, such as lobbies with big windows or outdoor courtyards, for getting-ready and family photos.
Grand entrances, toasts, and parent dances are highlights; I coordinate with your DJ so I’m in position for each moment.
For guests, having everything under one roof makes the day relaxed, and for photos it means more time for the moments that matter.
Spring Valley Nature Center and Busse Woods are both a short drive from most hotels and give you trees and water instead of parking lots.

Schaumburg borders Hoffman Estates, Elk Grove Village, and Rolling Meadows, with Arlington Heights and Mount Prospect to the east. See Jessica & Mike’s wedding at Inverness Golf Club.
Just north of Schaumburg, the Inverness area has some of the most beautiful golf-club settings in the northwest suburbs. I photographed Jessica and Mike’s wedding at Inverness Golf Club, where wide fairways and mature trees gave us room for relaxed, natural portraits and a glowing sunset session.
Golf clubs are working spaces, so I coordinate with the clubhouse on where we can photograph and when the course clears. Once that’s set, portraits move quickly and you’re back with your guests in minutes.
If your reception is at a Schaumburg hotel, a golf-course portrait stop can still fit between the ceremony and cocktail hour, about a ten-minute drive each way.
Golf-course light is especially flattering in the evening, when the low sun reaches across the open greens and the grass reflects a warm glow onto your faces.
For a modern, urban look without driving downtown, Schaumburg Town Square has open plazas, a library, and landscaped walkways that make a quick, polished portrait stop. Woodfield Mall’s surroundings are busy, but nearby hotel courtyards and gardens often offer quieter spots. I’ll scout the best options near your venue so portraits feel calm and elegant.

“My husband hired Gia when he was planning on proposing and from the very start we clicked with her. She truly captured our moment so beautifully and we knew right away she had to do our wedding pics. I knew nothing about what shots I wanted, I let her take…”
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Jessica G., Google review
“Gia was an amazing photographer. From the planning to the actual shoot, everything was perfect. She was able to capture my now fiancé’s birthday photos and at the end did a surprise proposal. Gia was able to help us coordinate with the locations and picked great spots for us!”
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ David T., Google review
“For me, photography is more than a job, it is also my passion in life. As I think my images show, I love to photograph most of all happy people in exquisite settings. I take most of my photos in a photojournalistic way and my approach to wedding photography is that of a narrator, and my style is a mix of photojournalism and creative portraiture. To that end, I’m more interested in capturing the moment, rather than a fake smile, and so, after many years of experience, I know when to capture life as it happens without restraint.”
